We are delighted to be once again hosting A Celebration Day for Girls on

Saturday & Sunday, 12th and 13th of September 2020

A Celebration Day for Girls is a workshop for 9-12 year old girls with their mother or female carer, gently celebrating the threshold of puberty and menarche. This carefully crafted workshop was designed by Jane Bennett to support girls and mothers at this special threshold in both their lives, and to provide an affirming, grounded and connected celebration of the journey to womanhood.

At the Celebration Day girls enjoy lively discussion, fun activities, and women’s stories, as together we deeply nourish their self-esteem, self-awareness and positive body-image.

Session times are:

  • SATURDAY 10am – 12pm: Mothers / female carers only attend this session. It is an opportunity to prepare together for Sunday and ask questions and get to know each other a little before we sit in circle with the girls.
  • *SATURDAY 1pm – 3pm: Fathers / males carers * (optional)
  • SUNDAY 10am – 1pm: Daughters only
  • SUNDAY 1pm – 4pm: Daughters & Mothers/carers together
(Grandmothers/ Aunts/close female adult friends are also welcome to attend this session. Please let me know if any extras are attending.)

COST: $165/$125 concession per mother & daughter duo
$35 Fathers

*optional – Fathers celebrating Daughters*
A community session

A 2hr session for dads/male carers of 9 -12 yr old girls. ‘Fathers celebrating daughters’ offers an opportunity for men to come together and explore menarche/menstruation, and the joys and challenges of caring for a girl on the thresholds of menarche. Together we will explore such themes as “What role does menstruation play in mens’ lives?” & “what role do men play in their daughters’ lives at this stage of their life cycle?” It is a guided safe space for the sharing of stories, information and inspiration for the important relationship between fathers/male carers and daughters.

This workshop is open to all fathers/male carers of 9 -12 year old girls in the community, independent of whether their daughters have attended a CDG or not. However it is a perfect complement to CDG, for those whose daughters have attended a CDG in the past, are attending this CDG or intend to in the future.
So tell your mates and lets talk menstruation together!
By request, Bookings essential.

Cost $35

For more information, or to make a booking, please contact the workshop facilitator, Ingrid Petterson on 0420 932 751 or artmedicine@ymail.com

About Ingrid Petterson, the workshop facilitator:

ingrid

“I am always humbled to sit in circle with mothers & daughters.  Sharing together, boundaries dissipate.  We hear our stories in each other’s voices and our compassion grows.  In this we are all connected.”

My work as a facilitator, art therapist and community arts worker, offers me the gift of working with girls and women with diverse backgrounds, abilities and life experiences.  As a ‘Celebration day for Girls’ facilitator I am honoured to spend sacred time with girls, and their female carers, moving through the thresholds of menarche.

I am passionate about creating a safe and joyous world for all of our daughters and sons to grow up in. I look forward to sharing and learning with you.

With inspiration, Ingrid
