Thursday 8th of August – 10am to 4pm
New Australian research explores the issue of ‘professional trauma related to both witnessing and experiencing disrespectful care and subsequently feeling complicit in the provision of poor care’ suffered by midwives. In such a climate highlighting self-care becomes urgent. In this workshop we’ll explore the psychological underpinnings of trauma; the emotional demands of ‘bearing witness’; self-reflective processes and consider self-care practices.
Delicious and nourishing morning tea and lunch will be provided.
“Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a workshop on “self-care in a wounding birth culture” by Rhea Dempsey. I didn’t know what to expect but I was blown away by how powerful it was and how much it resonated with me. Thank you to all of the amazing midwives who made it such an awe-inspiring and fulfilling day. Everyone in any type of birth / early parenting work needs to hear this!”
